Moon Marked: Spellbound Part 4

Chapter Sixteen ★ Spellbound

Screams followed the laughter as the rides begun to power up with their creepy music. Not a single soul was around my area. I sniffed the air for any hint of someone hanging around.

Only the wretched stench of rotten pond scum and decaying wood filled my sinuses. My stomach wobbled as the smell quivered deep into my bones. My throat tightened as tried to heave the empty contents up into the world.

Dry heaving as a wolf sucks. I hacked a few times more then closed my mouth then licked my lips. Water. Need water.

I searched my tiny abode for some of the cool liquid to ease the tension that continued to writhe in my belly. Over in a dark corner was a small aluminum bowl. In it held some water.

Lapping up the cool yet salty essence I swallowed and let the calm wash over me. My gut still continued to twist in knots but it wasn’t as intense. With a huff I laid back down and observed the path that went by my cage.

Movement. A green blur whooshed on by the cage and went around the corner of the stall across from me.  The form popped up and moved about in the small wooden stand. Lights within the booth flickered once then turned on.

He was leaning upon the wood counter peering back at me. His one big eye with no eyelid staring straight at the cage while his other lime green eye darted from one place to another. He continued to jerk and move at the tiniest sounds.

The man reminded me of a lizard because he was so twitchy. A broad smile broke upon his lips revealing jagged broken teeth. As the sun rose I noticed that his skin took on an orange tone with dark spots speckled on his arms.

Moving about in the tiny stall he stacked the milk bottles applying spit on each. After he was done he bend down and gave the tower a good tap to make sure the bottles stayed in place. Shoot, dad was right about these games being rigged.

Lizard man stood back up then glanced up from his handy work and waved his hand at me. He turned off the lights then scuddled off to the next stall on all fours. Strange. This whole place is weird.

Carnival music with laughter filled my ears as the dark ick slipped away. Old pine tickled my sinuses and I sneezed. My nose still itched. The air traveled down my long snout and I shook my head with each sneeze.

That’s odd. Hmm, the world around me is still in shades of grey. Bars of silver and iron were in front held in place with spell worn pine wood. It was a rectangular box that didn’t allow for much standing room.

I tried to get up but stopped when my shoulders brushed against the top while on my hands and knees. Looking down at my hands it dawned on me that they are paws… not hands. I glanced back at my behind to see a bushy tail wag back.

Letting out a groan a small howl escaped my lips. I wasn’t human anymore. Above in the night sky the moon hung low. Her power over me was weakening but still my body remained in its wolf form.

Curling my tail around myself I laid down and watched the area around the cage. Darkness continued to lick away at the dim paper lanterns that hung along the pathways. The park had no one in it but a keening laughter could still be heard wafting in the wind.

It sent waves of chills up my spine. Shutting my eyes the longing of home settled into my stomach. I wish this was all a dream. That I’ll wake up back home in my bed with Pete quietly building legos on his side of the room.

Another laugh ripped through the early morning air. I threw my paws over my head and whimpered. I just want to go home. Dad and Aunt LeAnne where are you?

Outside the door the reptiles stopped their hissing language followed by abrupt silence. Only the sound of water dripping and echoing off the stone walls could be heard. I strained, yes even with my werewolf hearing, to listen for what might be happening out there.

A purposeful stride of footstep clattered down the hall. They were making haste as the sound got louder until they stopped. With a few taps of the person’s shoes one of the reptilian men hissed intelligible words as metal upon metal reached my ears.

The door lock clicked and the heavy wood door opened  as the hinges groaned. Wrapped in dark green cloak and her bright red hair tied up she turned to me and smiled displaying her perfect white teeth. It was like the sun shone down and kissed my forehead.

Every part of me wanted to lie down at her feet and be at her beck and call. Yes, she would be my master. I would follow her anywhere.

Her deep emerald eyes against her fair alabaster skin lit a fire deep inside of me. I wanted her. Never mind, Luna or Penny. This woman was the one for me.

She took a sensual step towards me and said, “My, my, my. You are a pretty one, aren’t you?”

I held still as she placed a gentle finger under my chin and lifted it up. Gazing into her liquid green eyes sent a calming sensation through me and quenched the fire of desire. She turned my head one way then the next and finally let it go.

Stepping back she asked, “What is your family name, child?”

“Shaw.” I said through sluggish lips. Getting the words out felt like chewing through two pieces of salted taffy. My eyelids were getting heavy too.

“Mmm.” She replied and then asked, “Is your father’s name, Stephen?”

Again, I fought and chewed to speak then replied, “Yesss.”

Things were feeling weird as I continued to watch her the world’s colors were draining. She wrapped her arms around her chest but rested one hand on her chin with a sultry smile. I felt a sharp pain near the base of my spine and I let out a whine.

The woman pursed her lips then said, “Easy. I have one more question before you can rest.”

I panted trying to reply to her. She held up her hand and I stopped. Must not make master mad. Have to listen to her. See what she wants.

She asked, “Does your dad know you’re here?”

My tongue loosened and I replied, “No.”

With a smile she stepped forward and tousled my hair. I leaned into it. She smelt so nice and it felt good. Master bent over and kissed the crown of my head then said, “Good. Now rest, little wolf. Rest. For you will do work for me when you wake.”

“Mmmm.” I said and let my heavy eyelid droop down and carry me to slumber.

They chained me to a wall. My feet were chained to the floor and I couldn’t move. The silver sizzled into my flesh and the smell of burnt fur filled the air in the small stone chamber.

Outsize of it I heard the small hisses bounce back and forth between each crocodile and alligator man who were guarding me. No one but Luna knew where I was so I doubt there will be anyone trying to rescue me. Is this what happened to Aunt Tabby?

A lone tear rolled down my cheek and I sniff trying to keep the snot from running as well. The last I saw of that smarmy mermaid was on the boat before the twister tore it to pieces. She was my only chance at escaping.

Come to think of it she’s the reason why I’m here. If she didn’t kidnap me then I would still be with Jacob. But then again, would I still have ended up here? Especially since it was the Carneys that tried to capture me?

Maybe I shouldn’t have skipped class. I can only hope that Jacob told my dad. That dad and Aunt LeAnne will come to my rescue. Yeah, they have to or at least dad has to… it’s not like he’ll give up on the fight to get me back.

But does Jacob know what happened? Augh, too many what ifs. I knock my head up against the stone wall. Pain throbbed in the back but nothing like the searing sensation coming from my neck, wrists and ankles.

Dang it all. Why couldn’t my life be a normal life? Why do I have to be werewolf? What do the witches want with me? Why me?
