Chapter Eighteen ★ Lost

Inside I felt the grimy tug of darkness as my vision switch back to black and white. The women in blue stood before me. Her eyes tearful and her bottom lip trembled.

She whispered, “Come back to us, Daniel.”

I shook my head trying to shake off the cobwebs that still clung to my mind. She grabbed a hold of my face and stared deep into my eyes. Her brows creased as her nose scrunched up and mouth peeled away revealing sharp canines.

Heat flashed and stabbed at my mind. Still the woman held me tight in her hands. I struggled to move back but she had a good grip on me. The other wolf started to come closer but she shouted, “Stop. You can’t help.”

“At least let me hold him for you.” He growled.

In the shadows the lizard men continued to hiss between each other. Too scared to move or run for help. Why wasn’t master coming? She could take down these intruders.

Oh, that’s right. It’s my job to take them out.

I let out a snarl and tried to break away. Her hands dug deeper into my fur and flesh as my paws scrambled at the ground to gain purchase.

Two strong hands grabbed my hind legs and held them tight. I yelped. The woman pursed her lips and threw the wolf a look. He replied, “I need you to break the spell and not worry about keeping him still.”

She let out a huff then stared right back at me. Holding the sides of my head tight she said in a stern voice, “Remember who you are… come back to us.”

The world continued to bounce between the colorless and vibrant version. For as much as the vibrant world fought to stay the darkness pulled it away like the ocean waves ebbing back into the sea. I was lost.

Floating between both worlds. These two seem familiar to me but then I mustn’t disappoint master. The two versions fought, one to bring me back down into the darkness and the other back into the light.

A sense of belonging tugged at my mind when the world colors were vibrant. Whereas the colorless version made everything muffled like being lost in the mist. I want to go back to the warmth of the world with the bright colors.

The woman spoke between clenched teeth, “Stephen you need to call him. He is part of your pack. My words are only bringing him back halfway.”

Stephen? Where have I heard that name?

As the world’s colors were draining away the wolf who held my hind legs dropped them then grabbed a hold of my scruff again. He bit between his thumb and forefinger into the fleshy part of his hand. Blood ran down his arm and dripped onto the ground.

“I’ll need your help LeAnn.” He said.

He put me down as the woman sat on top of me then pried my jaws open. I shook her hands off of me then tried to move but the wolf placed his foot on my hind quarters  She grabbed my mouth and pulled it open again.

He held his hand over my mouth and let the blood drip in it then said:

Blood of my flesh,

And flesh of my blood,

What is me is mine

And what is mine is me,

Daniel Samuel Shaw you are now

Part of my pack,

From now until forever,

You are mine.

Power rippled through me as the world of grays shattered.
